Australian Lions Children's Mobility Foundation
The Australian Lions
Children's Mobility Foundation, proudly supporting the Hart Walker Program
in Australia.
Lions within Australia
are working hand in hand with the State Cerebral Palsy Associations to
assist children who are affected by Cerebral Palsy, providing funding for
Hart Walkers and other mobility devices to allow children to stand and
walk to the best of their ability.
The Motto of the
Australian Lions Children's Mobility Foundation is
"Walk With
Pride"
Mission Statement
"To
fund mobility devices for children with disabilities, giving these
children a chance to walk".
Objects
-
To provide funding support for mobility devices for
children with disabilities

To seek direct funding from Lions Clubs.

To co-ordinate the various programs between Lions
Clubs and the specialist support organisations.

To promote the Foundation with, and seek funding
from outside sources.

To use national programs, such as "Walk For An
Aussie Kid"®, to promote the Foundation and augment funding
Australian Lions Drug Awareness Foundation
The Australian Lions Drug
Awareness Foundation comprising ordinary Australians and drug abuse
experts, was formed by Australian Lions Clubs in 1984. Using donations and
grants, the Foundation funds and initiates projects to help Australians -
especially children - become aware of the danger of drugs. Its many
resources provide invaluable assistance to the community in fighting
Australia's growing drug problem.
Leo Clubs
What are Leo Clubs?
An official activity of
Lions Clubs International, the Leo Club program encourages young people
aged 16-28 years to serve others in their community and around the world.
Why should I become a Leo?
By becoming a Leo you are helping to prepare for your future by
developing leadership, organisational and social skills. By volunteering
your time and talents for the benefits of others you will learn first hand
the value and rewards of service. In addition to all the serious stuff you
will also have fun and make great new friends.
Lions Quest
What are the aims of the
Quest program?
The Quest program
aims to encourage and equip key adults in the lives of children with state
of the art resources which are essential for the healthy development of
young people. Lions-Quest programs aim to help young people develop
positive commitments to their peers, and communities.
How does it work?
Parents, educators, business and community leaders, and other adults
who are key figures in the lives of youth are brought together in
effective local partnerships where their individual skills are
complemented and reinforced. There are essentially three quest programs
with the "Skills for Growing' program targeting 5-10 year old, "Skills for
Adolescence' aimed at 11-14 year old, and the "Skills for Action' program
focussing on 15-18 year olds. The programs focus on developing essential
life and citizenship skills that lead to positive social behaviours such
as; responsibility, good judgement, self-discipline, getting along with
others, avoiding harmful use of drugs, and providing service to others.
Peace
Poster Contest
The Lions International Peace Poster Contest was created in
1988 to give young people an opportunity to express their feelings about
peace. Since then, more than 1.9 million children from approximately 65
countries have participated in the annual contest.
"Give Peace a Chance"
is the theme of the 2004-05 Peace Poster Contest. Lions clubs can sponsor
the program in their community for children in local schools or organized,
sponsored youth groups. Students, ages 11, 12 or 13 on November 15, 2004,
are eligible to participate. Students select a medium as outlined in the
contest rules to draw, paint or sketch their interpretation of the
contest's theme.
Youth Exchange
What is the aim of the
Youth Exchange Program?
The objectives of
Youth Exchange are to bring young people into contact with citizens of
other countries, thus promoting international understanding and goodwill
throughout the world.
What destinations for exchange
are available?
Youth from Australia are able to participate in exchange programs with
Brazil, Canada, District to District, Continental Europe, Indonesia,
Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, UK-Scandinavia, USA,
International Youth Camps. In addition the Youth Exchange program offers
an opportunity for Australia Lions to host International Exchangees.
Lions Youth of the Year Quest
What is the
Youth of the Year Quest?
The Lions Youth of the Year Quest is a project of the Lions Clubs of
Australia and Papua New Guinea. The Quest is designed to encourage student
interest in leadership and the qualities required to take an active and
constructive role in community. It does this by selecting an outstanding
young person from candidates throughout Australia to travel overseas and
act as an ambassador for Lions Clubs International Multiple Districts 201.
What
skills are required of the participant?
The Quest seeks a high level of academic, leadership, sporting, public
speaking and citizenship achievement in it's potential winners. By
emphasising these qualities it hopes to provide outstanding role models
for the youth of Australia and an overall increase in the confidence of
participants.
Lions Young Ambassadors of the 21st Century Award.
The Lions Young
Ambassadors of the 21st Century Award program is part of the Lions
Opportunities for Youth initiative. The mission of Lions Opportunities for
Youth is:
To provide the
young people of the world with opportunities for achievement, learning,
contribution and service, individually and collectively, sponsorship of
activities identified as best practices in the field of youth development.
By example
and through encouragement, Lions play an important role in fostering
leadership qualities and community service commitment in young people. The Lions Young Ambassadors of the 21st Century Award program expands
Lions opportunities to inspire and recognise outstanding youth.
The award
recognises young people (suggested ages 15 - 19) for their outstanding
community service involvement, leadership accomplishments, public speaking
skills and scholastic achievement. Recommended for the district, multiple
district and constitutional area levels, the award provides youth with an
incentive to excel in service and leadership.
At the same
time, the award program enables a Lions district/multiple district to
challenge young people and provide resulting benefits for youth and Lions.
Lions Young Leaders in Service Awards
The Lions Young Leaders in Service Awards recognise young
people (suggested ages 12-18) for their community service within a 12
month period:
50 hrs of service=Silver Seal Award.
100 hrs of service=Gold Seal Award.
