Visit to the Affected Area 25th January
LCIF Chairperson Al Brandel and his wife Dr. Maureen Murphy are leading a delivery of supplies into Haiti and meeting with Lions leaders to develop a long-term reconstruction plan.
Messages from LCIF Chairperson Al Brandel from Haiti, January 22:
10:00 a.m. We are about to
cross the border. We had a
problem with the bus and are
on the move now. Truck will
be delivered tomorrow. We
are running into a problem
with time now since there is
a 5 pm curfew. Bus is moving
without ac but that is ok.
11:00 a.m. Very hectic at
border. Many trying to
cross. We do not have a lot
of time to spend here due to
curfew. We are in car with
ZC William with our military
security. Bus is following.
12:00 p.m. We had good
meeting with Haitian lions.
Bus has problem. We have
crossed a chaotic boarder.
Truck will deliver goods
tomorrow. We are driving
with ZC William to visit
effected area. Due to curfew
we will have to leave
quickly. Emotional meeting
with Haitian lions.
3:00 p.m. Bus having problems. Still running. No ac. Curfew approaching. Military advisor suggested bus return to Santo Domingo. Video crew going to Port au Prince with PID Carlos Justiniano and ID Eugenio to stay overnight with Lions in Haiti. ZC William to get them back to Jimeni tomorrow and DG from DR to get them back to SD tomorrow. Great tearful meeting with Haiti Lions. Established a plan for disaster. Got to Haiti and witnessed a chaotic situation. Truck of supplies to be delivered tomorrow. Connection made for delivery of tents. We and many Lions now headed back to border in a very hot bus with a long ride back.
