·        Health Projects within Lions District 201C2

  • Childhood Cancer research appeal – World’s Biggest BBQ

  • Lions Eye Health Project – Glaucoma and Diabetic Retinopathy awareness

  • Prostate Cancer Awareness

  • Cord Blood

  • Diabetics

  • Sight first funding arrangements

After the very successful Lymphoedema Screenings in the Riverland March 2005, I have some proposed locations for ongoing Screenings based on Professor Piller of Flinders Medical Centre recommendations;

·         The area most desperate is Darwin/Katherine since the risk is much higher due to heat/humidity.

·         Noarlunga,  Strathalbyn or Yankillilla

·         Lucindale Field days in 2006 to provide screenings in the SE

“We are totally committed to rural and remote areas so you ideas are all great a 3 yr health project idea would be fantastic as then we can be sure we get total coverage and may even get a chance to do some follow up on some of the places we have been to before.”

The Lions of Berri is submitting a Notice of Motion to encourage Lymphoedema Screenings as a 3 year District Project. -  “To create a greater AWARENESS of Lymphoedema in the community by conducting fee public screenings for Lymphoedema in the Lions District of 201C2”

MOTION:       “That District 201C2 adopts the Lymphoedema Screening Project as a District Project for a period of 3 years, expiring on the 30th June 2008.

Funding:  An annual voluntary contribution may be made by participating clubs at a rate of  $ 5.00  per member, payable from the clubs Activities Account.”

Many People in the community know little about the incidence of Lymphoedema, the extent of personal discomfort associated with Lymph Node damage, and the enormous costs, both personally and to the community for subsequent treatment.  A commitment from the LIONS of District 201C2  for the “Free Lymphoedema Screening Project” would put Lions at the forefront of making the community more aware of the Risks, Solutions, and Preventative Strategies of this debilitating disease.
