Lion Max Keating

Lions Club of Gunnedah

Maxwell James Keating Died 6th April 2008, aged 73.

VALE, LION MAX KEATING

Max was an active member for 38 years and achieved 28 years perfect attendance. He had sponsored 6 new Lions members and was awarded the Max Brooks Memorial Lion of the Year Award in 1983.

His highest position was that of 2nd Vice President but he also served as Fund Raising Chairman, Community Betterment Chairman and Dinner & Social Chairman at different times.

He was presented with Life Membership on 19th November 2007.

Max was born on the 5th of July 1934 at Horsham Victoria and was raised, married and his children were born there. He started his farming at Horsham before moving to the Gunnedah District in 1968. In later years he suffered with Prostate Cancer and Multiple Sclerosis but continued farming up until 2006.

Max was very passionate with his farming. The crops, tractors & implements and the weather were his life. He won many Wheat Competitions and was a member of the Committee of Advice of the Prime Wheat Association for a number of years.

He was the Field Manager for the Ag-Quip Field Days from when they started in 1976 until 1989. (13 years)

Max was also a Member of the Gunnedah Show Society and a Director on the Board of the Curlewis Farmers Co-op for many years.

He is survived by his loving wife Judy and their children Jan, Helen, Gayle and Gary and grandchildren Natasha, Kareena, Brady, Justine, Lyndal, Margot and Wesley.
