DISTRICT CONVENTION 2017

12th to 15th October 2017

Hosted by the Lions Clubs of Inverell, Bundarra and Inverell Macintyre

Hi everyone. The 201N1 District Convention 2017 is  bearing down on us. I have taken a lot of phone calls from Lions struggling to find the registration forms on line, so here are the links that will take you to the Online Registration page or to download a paper form which you can fill in and post.

Please remember if you are registering for more than one (1) Lion you must fill in a new registration form for each Lion. Also please note that if you DO NOT have any allergies or dietary requirements please just leave them blank….DO NOT write NIL in these spaces.

The weather forecast for Convention weekend is looking good so the street march should go ahead. Clubs please bring flags, banners, signs and anything else that you can wave to let the town folk know that we are LIONS and we are celebrating 100 years of service to the community.

Friday night informal meet and greet is a buffet style sit down meal at the Inverell RSM Club. There will be some light entertainment and maybe even a guest speaker so please consider attending this function.

The golf and bowls challenge will be held on Thursday 12th October commencing at 1pm, so please consider these events when booking your accommodation. I am also putting the message out that if you have the GOLF or BOWLS trophy from Taree Convention please contact me and let me know as we need them in Inverell by Friday the 13th October.

Getting to Inverell a little earlier in the week will give you a chance to look around our amazing little town. All functions will be held at the RSM Cub in Evans street, commencing with the informal meet and greet on Friday night , this will be a smorgasbord /sit down meal.

Saturday morning brings the Opening Ceremony and Remembrance Ceremony held at the Town Hall. This will be followed by morning tea, which is a combined effort between Inverell and Bundarra CWA ladies, renowned for cooking up a storm. Morning tea also includes a visit to our local art gallery and a walk along the spectacular mosaic footpath then, weather permitting, we will group together for a street march through the main street and around to the RSM for a well deserved lunch.

The afternoon trip to our local Brudehof community leaves the RSM at around 2.00pm.  This event is open to all lions and partners not partaking in the afternoon business session. The property is called “DANTHONIA” and we will be touring the sign making factory, a mix of old school skill and new technology to create very impressive signs found all over Australia. Afternoon tea is also provided by the Brudehof ladies and there might even be some entertainment from the children living in this incredible community.

Saturday night will see all conventioneers dress up to attend the DG’s Banquet with the theme of

"CHICAGO 1917", so jazz up the evening with your dancing gear and have a fantastic evening celebrating 100 years of Lions service.

Sunday begins with the Key Members Breakfast, then back to the Town Hall for final business matters and some guest speakers including Professor Rebekah Russell Bennett, PDG Tim Irvine and, from the Save Sight Institute, Associate Professor John Grigg.

This brings us to the farewell luncheon back at the RSM club.

For any Lions staying on for a few days there is a gem and craft show on with fossicking tours available, plus the Sapphire City Festival kicks off, more info available from the Tourist information centre.

We are trying a few new things over the weekend so hopefully this will make the 2017 Centenary Convention pleasant and one to remember. DG John, Rosalie and my entire committee are looking forward to catching up in Inverell in October.
