DISTRICT GOVERNOR GERARD COLLIER CROSS
Gerard was born in Tamworth on the 26th December, 1943. He was reared and schooled in Walcha.
At the age of 11 he was the youngest pupil in NSW to qualify for the St John 1st Aid Certificate. At this age he also achieved 3rd Grade Pianoforte and 5th grade Violin. He was also the first Scout in Walcha to qualify as a 1st Class Scout.
In January 1960 Gerard moved to Sydney and joined the NSW Police Cadets. He studied Law, learnt typing and shorthand and was sworn in as Probationary Constable on his 19th Birthday.
Subsequently he was stationed at Parramatta, Petersham, Walgett, Mendooran, Raymond Terrace, Manilla and Yass as Sergeant, Wellington as Inspector, Bourke as Chief Inspector and retired in April 2000 after 40 years and 3 months service.
Gerard is now living at Hallidays Point with First Wife. He met Jeanette (Jan) Mary RUSSELL in 1961 through the CYO (Christian Youth Organisation) at Wentworthville and they married 1965 in Sydney. Gerard & Jan have four children, two sons a daughter and a son. They also have six grand children.
Gerard joined Lions in July 1969 as a member of the Mendooran Lions Club. He then transferred as dictated by professional moves to Raymond Terrace, Manilla, Yass, Wellington, Bourke again to Wellington and is presently a member of Hallidays Point Lions Club making a total of 38 Years Perfect Attendance.
Gerard was President of Mendooran Lions Club (72 – 73), Raymond Terrace Lions Club (76 – 77), and Manilla Lions Club (82 – 83).

Gerard was instrumental in the formation of Binnaway Lions Club in 1974 and was Guiding Lion to Karuah Lions Club in 1976 and Guiding Lion Murrumbateman Lions Club in 1988.
He has attended 13 Multiple District Conventions, 26 District Conventions and 1 International Convention.
Gerard is the holder of 3 x 100% Presidents Awards, 3 x 100% Secretary's Awards, 14 Presidents Awards, a Zone Chairman Extension Award (Formation of Binnaway 73‑74), 7 District Governors Awards ‑ 2 Star Awards. He has also received a Melvin Jones Fellowship, a James D Richardson Honour Award and a Harry Hession Bronze Honour Award
Gerard and Jan have grown up with Lions, over he past 38 years and look forward to serving this wonderful Lions District for 2006 ‑ 2007.
