Check List

Planning your trip:

  • Complete the LionsCamp Kookaburra 2012 application form.

  • Receive confirmation of acceptance from the Camp Registrar

  • With the assistance of your sponsors, consider your financial commitment which includes travel to and from the camp located in the City of Lake Macquarie near Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia; the camp fee; a daily personal expense budget; plus accommodation if the optional Sydney stop over is chosen.

  • Pay the Camp Fee (at the moment the international exchange rate for the Australian dollar is relatively low so it may be cheaper to pay early rather than to wait for the deadline of 30th April 2012)

  • Plan your itinerary, refer to the basic examples provided.

  • Book your flights - some airlines have early bird specials and often booking on-line is cheaper - particularly for domestic flights within Australia.

  • Arrange travel insurance to cover personal health issues, luggage and belongings, and variations to flight plans.

  • Ensure that your passport is current for the duration of your stay in Australia plus at least three months. 

  • Check with your authorities to determine if you need to apply for a visa to enter Australia prior to departure from your home country. If you do, apply before the 30th April 2012 to ensure that your application will be processed before departure.

We will provide:

  • Newcastle/Central Coast (Airport/Bus/Train terminals) transfers to/from the Glenrock Camp Site.
  • Accommodation & meals for the duration of the Camp.
  • Day and evening activities and excursions.
  • Loan Sleeping Bags with washable liners, pillows and bath towels and Blanket
  • Washing and drying facilities for your clothes.
  • Camp Windbreaker Jacket with camp logo.
  • Camp Souvenir Program Book
  • Camp Souvenir CD/DVD (delivered/posted 2 weeks after Camp subject to availability of photographic/video material)

You need to arrange and pay for:

  • Transport from your home to Newcastle, NSW Australia and return.

  • Travel documents including passport, visa and travel insurance.

  • Travel visa information and application forms available at: - http://www.immi.gov.au/immigration/

(Note: while Youth Exchange students will have transport arrangements made through the International Youth Exchange program it is your personal responsibility to advise the Camp organizers of your time and mode of arrival in and departure from  Newcastle - refer to our Youth Exchange Page)

 

You will need to bring:

  • Suitable clothing for a temperature range of 3-18oC for both wet and sunny conditions.

  • Solid walking shoes/sneakers.

  • Bathroom kit including a personal face washer (if required).

  • A moderate amount of spending money for incidentals.

         (Note: We suggest AUD$20/day while at Camp and AUD$30/day while engage in other experiences such as Voluntary Community Service and Youth Exchange)

  • personal prescribed medication with supporting documentation.

    (Note: Do not bring any non-prescribed or elicit drugs into the Country or into the Camp)

You requested to bring (where appropriate):

  • A small portable music instrument to share your talents

  • Your national flag (medium size approx: 500mm-1m long) for show and tell and decoration of the "Friendship Hall"

  • Up to 10 of your favorite digital photos of your locality for a 10 minute show and tell.

           (Bring your photos on CD, USB flash drive or digital camera)
