District Governor's Report May 2009
HELLO for the final time as DG. What a year we have had. A short recap of some of our achievements as a District.
We showed good Membership growth, gained another Club, formed a Branch Club, enjoyed a wonderful Convention, thanks to the Lions Club of Wheelers Hill, met many new friends and survived the most horrific day in Victoria’s history. What helped us through the past year is our dedication to our organisation and our Aussie resilience..
Stand Alone Vertical Pull Up Banners for Your Club
David Dobbs [Warrandyte L/C] and I have been investigating the purchase of pull-up banners for use by clubs in V5.
I suggest that we use the National banner artwork, which I have a copy of, saving us $200 on artwork BUT we can have your club name added for a cost of only $30. This banner is the one on stage at Melbourne Convention and almost the same as the Lion Mint backing board.
David has obtained s/h double-sided base units for $30.00 each – they are a good, heavy unit and a quote for the banner as follows…
Double sided banners – 900 x 2000mm
600dpi Digital prints Hp10
in 4 colour process on synthetic roll-up banner
material to be mounted into double sided pull-up units supplied.
Cost inc gst.. 1 double sided unit inc. base and club name
$
211.40 ea.
If we can order 25 units, they would be $196.00 ea
If you don’t want your club name on, then deduct $30 from these charges.

These prices are current as of Friday, 22nd May but can alter if the material costs alter.
If you want to purchase a base unit but have your own design artwork, it will cost around $411.00 – remembering they are double sided, which is a big advantage. For these you will need to negotiate directly with the printer, only buying the base unit from us.

Righteous Pups
Sandringham Lions Club sponsored a successful motion to Lions District V5 at its convention in October 2008.
This motion was that Lions should promote awareness of Autism and support the provision of Autism Assistance Dogs to families with an autistic child.
The term "autism" was first used in 1943 by Dr Leo Kanner. He published a paper about a group of children he had observed in his clinic. These children were unlike most others - withdrawn, non-verbal, with bizarre ritualistic and repetitive behaviours.
Wyn Tyquin Award
In the search for an appropriate award for supporters of the Lions Spinal Cord Fellowship, the committee was conscious of the fact that its often the grandmothers, mothers, wives and women generally who take on the primary caring role of those with chronic disability.
Women also play a strong support role in Lions as either the strength behind the member or in recent years, as strong and involved club members.
The Win Tyquin Award is an attractive, free-standing glass award with Donor details and the recipient’s name and the month awarded are elegantly laser-etched on the award.
Open to all clubs or individual Lions who make a donation to the Fellowships of $A500 or more.
