FOUR POST YOUTH CAMP 16TH – 21ST JANUARY 2008

Four Post Youth Camp

Due to the flooding in Licola in late November 2007, the Finley Lions Club decided to put together a smaller scale Camp for children, 8-11 years old from the NSW towns in the district.

After consulting the Four Post Youth Camp Management, a small committee was formed and began the task of recruiting children. The target group were mainly farmer’s children and families in the townships whose children will not get a holiday.

The Lions Clubs involved were Deniliquin, Hay, Oaklands and of course Finley and other Groups included the Berrigan CWA and Finley Soroptimist who helped to sponsor a child.

The Four Post Youth Camp is set on the Edward River, just outside of Deniliquin and it was an ideal setting to run a Lions Club Camp. Twenty-seven children attended the Camp and were well supported by volunteer House Parents and Youth Leaders from the Finley, Deniliquin and Hay Lions Clubs.

A Program was put in place to keep the children occupied throughout the day and into the evenings. The general consensus from the children was that the Bike Riding, Archery, Mini - Golf and the Canoeing were the highlights. There was no shortage of food and the children gave their thumbs up of approval.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the volunteers, from the various Lions Clubs, for being House Parents and for their time to assist in the running of the Camp. Murray Druitt for his time as the Camp First-Aider and to Norm Purtill for making a bus available to take the children on an excursion around Deniliquin.
