Travelling Travel Gavel

At the conclusion of the successful Corowa Convention, the Lions Club of Kerang AGAIN won the Travel Gavel Award for the umpteenth time. In one way it is great to win because it shows how well Kerang supports our V6 Conventions, but on the other hand all the Gavel does is sit in our Lions Den gathering dust, till it is bought back to the next convention. On the way home to Kerang, the Tartaglias and Gins had a bit of a brainstorming session to make the Gavel actually travel to other clubs who may have never even seen what the Gavel actually looks like!! Thus, the Travelling Travel Gavel project was born.

With the firm approval of DG Alan Millar, the Tartaglias and Gins visited DG Alan's home club, Barham/ Koondrook (even though Alan and Rose were away on a DG visit!) on Monday November 23rd 2009 to start the Gavel on its travel. The idea was well received by the club, especially by the ladies who took great delight in pretending to whack their men over the head with the gavel for the camera!! I hope photos like these are sent in for the V6 Roar!

Please refer to the accompanying Rules of the Travelling Travel Gavel but basically we hope that this idea will encourage clubs to visit other clubs for fellowship and by having a distance tax to be paid, we hope to raise a bit of money for the V6 Foundation. Above all we hope that clubs have a bit of fun at the same time. Clubs need to listen carefully to the club passing the Gavel on to them because they will have to present the next club with the same details! That will be easy in reality because all they need to do is read the Rules out!

So the Gavel has started its journey and it will be interesting to see where it travels to before surfacing again at the Rutherglen Convention. We hope that clubs will send in photos and any funny happenings for Carol to publish every 2 months. Carol will be able to make a mud map about where the Gavel has been. We hope that all clubs get with the spirit by moving the Gavel on quickly and send their cheque and form back to Kerang asap so we can keep tabs on where the Gavel is travelling to.

Yours in Lionism.
Lion Greg Gin,
Secretary, Lions Club of Kerang

RULES OF THE TRAVELLING TRAVEL GAVEL

  1. Travel Gavel to be passed on to another club by making a club visitation with no less than two members.
  2. Gavel must be passed along within 3 weeks of receiving it, to keep it moving on. Gavel cannot go back to a club that has already had it. Each Club must fill out the Travelog.
  3. Please make a cheque out to Lions Club of Kerang at the rate of $1/ km as a distance tax between the two clubs and send it to Lions Club of Kerang ASAP, together with this form. Monies collected will go into a Gavel Bank account and will be presented to Cabinet at the next Convention to go to the V6 Foundation, eg. Kerang to Barham/Koondrook is 24 km so distance tax is $24. Tax will be increased to $2/km if gavel is held for longer than 3 weeks. KEEP IT MOVING!
  4. Any photos or stories can be sent/emailed directly to Carol Kennedy to go into V6 Roar.
  5. Club with the Gavel on the day before the convention at Rutherglen must bring it with them together with their cheque.
  1. Make some money for V6 Foundation. It is not for Kerang!
  2. Encourage clubs to visit other clubs.
  3. Create a bit of fun. Carol can make a mud map in V6 Roar and have photos + stories as to where the Gavel has been.
  4. If clubs get with the spirit, the Lions Club of Kerang will put the Travelling Travel Gavel Project up as a Notice of Motion at Rutherglen.
