About 70 people attended the District final of the Youth of the Year held at Strathmerton. Contestants Tara Pocklington from Leitchville, Stephany Burton from Finley, Anna Bakogianis from Nathalia, Felicity Webster from Chiltern, Jake Bray-Butler from Bright and Hayden Webb from Culcairn answered two impromptu questions; ‘Which three people, living or dead would you invite to your dinner party and why?’ ‘You have been given the chance to participate in a reality type TV show. What type of show would you be in and what would you get out of it?’
After a very nice lunch prepared by the Strathmerton Lioness Club the contestants presented their prepared speeches. The judges chose Anna Bakogianis the winner of the public speaking and overall winner Tara Pocklington.
Tara then went on to the state final at Cranbourne on March 26 where she won the public speaking.
The state final winner was Stuart McKenzie from Bacchus Marsh in V1-4.
