MD 201 Leo of the Year Quest
AIMS
1.
to develop and encourage the qualities of Leadership, Experience and
Opportunity

ambassador for the Leos of Australia and PNG
QUALIFICATIONS
The entrant must be a financial
member of a Leo Club in good standing, and should:
1.
show a
genuine commitment to the ideals of community service
2.
be actively
involved in the activities of his/her Leo Club and the wider community
3.
demonstrate
a high level of leadership skills within Leos and the community
4.
have a
knowledge and appreciation of the Leo Program and Lions International
5.
have a
knowledge and appreciation of Australia/PNG and world affairs
6.
have good
communication skills

As and from the 2009
Melbourne MD Leo of the Year Quest – a new prize will be created for the
“Best Public Speaker” at the Multiple District final. This prize may also be
awarded at either Club, District and State finals.
The Best Public Speaker
will be determined by the Judging Panel as the Leo attaining the highest
public speaking score, as set out on the Judges Score Sheet from a total of
20 points. There may only be one MD Leo of the Year winner and one Best
Public Speaker winner at all levels of the Quest – however one participant
may win both sections.
METHOD OF
SELECTION
Leos wishing to enter the
Competition must complete the MD201 Leo of the Year Entry Form and submit it
to the District Leo Chairman who will arrange the first level of judging.
Judging will include a 20-30
minute interview with the judging panel, and a 5-minute prepared speech to
be presented to a wider audience.
LEVELS OF
COMPETITION
District
– Each Leo Club may nominate one or more members, depending on any specific
restrictions of an individual District. Districts should consider this
carefully before enforcing such restrictions. The District final should be
held two clear weeks before the State final.
State –
Each District Leo of the Year is eligible to nominate in that State’s Leo of
the Year competition e.g. Q1, Q2, Q3 & Q4 District winners are eligible for
the Queensland State Leo of the Year. The State final should be held three
clear weeks before the MD Convention.
Multiple District
"Each State Leo of the
Year becomes eligible to contest the National Leo of the Year
Quest. This judging will be held at the MD Lions Convention each year -
typed entry forms must be received in the prescribed format and include a
passport sized photo.
Entry forms should be addressed
to the MD Leo Chairman P.O. Box 676, Mandurah WA 6210 to be received no later
than the 1st April 2009."
IMPORTANT NOTE:
At the completion of each level of judging, the winner’s entry form must be
forwarded immediately to the organiser of the next level of judging.

form to State Leo Co-ordinator for State judging

State winner’s
form to MD Leo Chairman for MD judging
·
National winner’s
form to Youth Programs Manager for entry in International Leo of the Year
competition.
JUDGES
The judging panel should be of
mixed gender and with a mix of Lions (which may include a Lioness or Lions
Lady) and community minded persons.
District
– the judging panel should consist of three
members – two from the Lions family and one from the wider community
State –
as for District
MD –
The judging panel should consist of five members, including:

the previous Leo
of the Year
·
a prominent member
of the community
·
three senior
members of the Lions family
PRIZES
The prize for the MD 201 Leo of
the Year shall be:
·
a trip around
Australia with the Youth of the Year national finalists (if the Leo is under
18 years of age)
OR
·
travel to promote
the Leo program (to the value of $1500) AND
·
personal education
or travel expenses (to the value of $2000)
PLUS
·
funding to attend
the following MD Convention to assist with Leo Convention activities.
The Leo
winning the best Public Speaker category wins a cash prize of $500.00
RESPONSIBLITIES OF THE MD201 LEO OF THE YEAR
The MD201 Leo of the Year will
be required to:
· assist
the State Leo Co-ordinators to promote the Leo of the Year competition to
Leos throughout the Multiple District
· attend
the following MD Convention to assist with Leo of the Year judging, the Leo
static display and activities planned for Leos during convention
· furnish
a report to the Manager, Youth & Community Projects outlining experiences,
opportunities, points of interest and activities undertaken as Leo of the
Year.
· Be
prepared to present such a report to the MD Convention, if time is available
for this purpose.
