THAT “It
is time to elevate the significance of Leos within our
family of service”
VISITED THE SOUTH
EAST TOWN OF MOUNT GAMBIER, SOUTH AUSTRALIA PROMOTING THE LEO MOVEMENT IN
MULTIPLE DISTRICT 201 DISTRICT C2.
Day One And
Fourteen members and the school Leo Club Advisor Sonia Parker, Lions Club
Advisor Tony Jimmieson, Lions Lady Patricia Jimmieson and senior school
coordinator Wally Pillen left Yankalilla by bus on the 12th December
arriving at their accommodation, the Old Mount Gambier Goal late afternoon
and enjoyed a BBQ dinner that night.
Day Two and the
Leo Club visited the Mount Gambier and Grant High Schools, where Leo
president Shannon gave an address and members gave teachers and students
information on the Leo Club projects & involvement in the community. In the
afternoon members climbed Mt Schank an extinct volcano rising abruptly from
the plains to 158 metres above sea level. That night the club was hosted by
the Lions Club of Mount Gambier where President Shannon and members advised
Lions from Mount Gambier, Gambier City, Millicent, Kalangadoo, Penola and
Mount Gambier and Millicent Lioness Club's on Leo's Club projects, community
involvement and their individual position description's in the Leo Club,
many questions were asked of the Leo Club members by Lions and Lionesses.
Day Three the
members had a fun day visiting the Blue Lake area, then on to Naracoorte
Caves for a two hour adventure underground. That night members attended the
Mount Gambier Picture Theatre and enjoyed a movie.
Day Four arrived
back at the Yankalilla Area School at 4.30pm completing approximately 1028
km.
General The trip
was an outstanding success with interest in forming a Leo Club indicated in
two areas. The Leo Club members enjoyed the trip and extend their sincere
thanks to their sponsor club the Lions Club of Yankalilla and District, the
Brighton Lions Club and the Mount Gambier Lions Club, for without their
support the trip would not have been possible.
