Lions in Australia consider the current widespread drought as a disaster and Districts will be undertaking specific relief and assistance activities.
Lions should refer to their District website for detailed information on each District's response. In general Districts will be commencing strategies within two key themes.
1. Club partnerships Clubs in non-drought affected areas will develop individual partnership arrangement with clubs in drought affected areas. Partnered clubs will work together to develop support strategies agreed between the clubs. This can include relief efforts including support with cash and goods.
Clubs in coastal areas are asked to consider providing billets and hospitality to families from drought affected areas under the "Sea change program", to provide a short, low cost respite activity to clubs in drought affected areas.
2. Social support activities Clubs in drought affected areas should consider social support programs to assist affected farmers in their communities. This can be as simple as providing recreational activities and visits under the theme of mateship.
