The "Give Back" appeal is how Lions in NSW are helping farmers and residents in drought affected areas.
Media Release - Stoner Urges City Residents To Give Generously To Lions Drought Appeal NSW
Leader of The Nationals, Andrew Stoner, today urged city residents to give generously to the Lions Club 'Give Back' Appeal, which is raising funds for country people battling the drought.
Mr Stoner, a Member of the NSW Parliamentary Lions Club which conceived the idea, said Sydney's 78 Lions Clubs had launched the City/Bush Aid Project to raise and distribute much needed funds to drought devastated areas of NSW.
"Thousands of country families are doing it tough at the moment with 92.7 per cent of the State in drought and many will struggle to make ends meet over Christmas and the New Year," Mr Stoner said.
"I firmly believe that charity starts at home and country people need a helping hand now more than ever." Mr Bede Long OAM from Lions Australia said donations to the appeal could be made at any branch of the Westpac Bank and Lions donation buckets would be collecting for the appeal at Sydney shopping centres on January 19, 20 and 21.
"People can also send cheques made out to the Lions 'Give Back' Appeal to PO Box 175 West Pennant Hills 2125," Mr Long said. "Every single dollar will go to rural Lions Clubs working to help drought affected communities. Country Lion Clubs will direct the funds to the worst affected families in the regions most in need.
"This is a partnership between city and country Lions Clubs. Lions has the local structures and networks in place in almost every town in NSW." Mr Stoner said he had no doubt Sydneysiders would dig deep to make things a little easier for rural families.
"This is a great opportunity for city residents to show some of their famous generosity and take some of the financial pressure off rural families," Mr Stoner said.
"I urge Sydneysiders to show that they care."
