Following decisions by the Council of Governors, a multiple district 201 MERL Seminar was recently held in Brisbane where 'Pride in Growth’'was launched as the umbrella title for matters associated with Membership, Extension, Retention and Leadership.

In addition to State MER Coordinators and State Leadership Chairmen, a representative of each of our nineteen districts was in attendance - Our joint and successful aim was to up skill those persons who attended, to provide training and assistance to Lions and clubs within their district, state or territory in all elements of MERL development. The feedback evaluation form revealed participants had an extremely high acceptance of all elements. This therefore augurs well for development growth with the multiple district.

The facilitators included PDG Ken Mulcahy (Membership), PDG Margaret Stewart (Retention), PDG Norm Alcock (Leadership) and I, PDG Bob Radford as Manager of the Membership Services Committee. Each of us is available for consultation and as well can provide, where appropriate and within budget, on hands assistance, to supplement the work of the district, state and territory representatives.

We've decided to place on this website, material as detailed at the seminar, so as all Lions and clubs within the multiple district can access the information. Much of this material was produced in PowerPoint form, so is therefore ideal to use in presentations. In most cases the material is a 'living document' and will be fine tuned as circumstance may from time to time apply.

"Pride in Growth" - I do ask you to take careful note of our "Pride in Growth" Recognition and Awards Program. This program has been trialed in one district, and having proved successful is now rolled out for the benefit of all Lions and clubs within the multiple district.

A final matter - with the assistance of Lions Clubs International, the Council of Governors has been able to appoint PDG Russ Connolly and PDG Bede Long as in the field extension (new club) operatives. To access their talents please contact your district governor.

All the best for a productive Lion's development future

PDG Bob Radford
