Our troops in Afghanistan enjoy their Lions Christmas Cakes

Christmas Cakes have been donated by Lions Australia to Australian Defence Force personnel serving in Afghanistan over the Christmas period. Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel serving in Afghanistan on Operation Slipper are currently tucking into some of the 1440 Christmas cakes generously donated by Lions Australia to ADF personnel deployed overseas on operations during this Christmas period.

"Each year Lions Australia like our troops to know that they are not forgotten," said National Cake Chairman Ray Hall.

"This year in conjunction with Top Taste and the Australian Army 1440 cakes have been packed and transported by the RAAF and the Combined Services Logistical Command to Afghanistan. We hope these offerings bring them a sense of home and the appreciation we have of the difficult task they undertake for Australia," Ray adds.

Around 2400 ADF personnel are currently deployed to Afghanistan and throughout the Middle East Area of Operations (MEAO). At MNB-TK in Uruzgan Province, ADF personnel from Combined Team - Uruzgan and Mentoring Task Force - Three (MTF-3) took time out this week to share a piece of Lions Christmas Cake over their morning coffee. Lions Christmas Cakes are also being distributed to those MTF–3 personnel who are currently working alongside their Afghan National Army colleagues in forward operating bases throughout Uruzgan Province.

Operation Slipper is Australia's military contribution to the international campaign against terrorism, maritime security in the MEAO and countering piracy in the Gulf of Aden.
