Past International President Moore, Vice chairperson and international coordinator of Campaign SightFirst is a great friend of Australian Lions. He is here to chair a number of important forums to further develop Australian Lions response to Campaign Sightfirst II.
Through Campaign Sightfirst II, Lions Clubs International will raise more than US$150 million to combat preventable blindness.
Since its inception in 1990, Lions Sighfirst Programs have:
- Awarded US$211 million for 896 projects in 90 countries
- Prevented serious vision loss for 20 million
- Provided 80.5 million treatments for river blindness
- Restored sight to 7.3 million with cataract
- Improved eye-care services for hundreds of millions
- Built or expanded 300 eye hospitals, clinics and wards
Upgraded 337 eye centres with equipment
- Trained 345,000 ophthalmologists, ophthalmic nurses, other
professional eye-care workers and village health workers
- Provided management training for 115 facilities
- Launched world's first-ever initiative to combat childhood blindness in partnership with the World Health Organization. Thirty pediatric eye-care centers have been established and have strengthened or improved vision care for more than 71 million children.
