Costs |
The Lions Youth
Exchange Program is operated on a non-profit basis and represents
outstanding value for money. Below is information relating to costs involved
in the Program for:
COSTS – OUTGOING AUSTRALIAN YOUTH
Every participating
Australian youth is required to cover the full cost of his/her travel. Costs
are not subsidised by Lions Australia. Outgoing youth must be aged 16-21 at
the date of travel departure subject to host country legal age requirements.
Costs vary from
approximately $A1,500 - $A6,000 depending on destination. These costs can
vary until receipt of final payment.
Costs payable by
outgoing Australian youth cover:

Pre-departure accommodation (if applicable), venue costs, meal
costs. |

Travel
insurance |
|
|
Transfer
costs – airports to motel, motel to airport (if applicable) |
|
|
Visa charge
(if application) |
|
|
Return
international airfares including taxes and airport charges excluding
airport charges not collected in the ticket price. |

|
All
internal travel within the host country |
|
|
All
stopovers including hotels, transfers, sightseeing and chaperones.
Current stopover for the European/Scandinavian Programs is London.
Los Angele and San Francisco are designated stopovers for the North
American Program (subject to change) |

Administration of the travel arrangements by Lions International. |
|
|
Compulsory
one-day seminar held in the youth’s home Lions District. The purpose
of the seminar is to meet other outgoing Australian exchangees in
their local Lions District, their parents, members of the sponsoring
Lions Clubs and the District Youth Exchange Chairperson. Important
information will be discussed about the program, host family
expectations, responsibilities of each travelling youth while they
are away, etc. The seminar is held in October-November. |

Youth
Exchange uniform comprising two (2) polo shirts and one(1) polar
fleece jacket |
|
|
Travel back
pack, name badge and Lions pins for host families and Clubs. |
Each outgoing
Australian youth will be given confirmed costs in July with full payment
required by 15 August. However, costs may vary until receipt of final
payment.
Australian domestic
travel will be arranged by our travel agent as needed for connection to
international flights. Details about the cheapest possible flights will be
supplied. Our travel agent cannot arrange coach or rail travel.
NOTE: Australian
domestic airfares to and from international airports at Sydney, Melbourne
and Brisbane are NOT included in the total Program costs, unless
specifically stated.

COSTS – HOST CLUBS & HOST FAMILIES
International youth
arrive in Australia for hosting in July-August and December-January. Each
international exchange has prepaid the appropriate travel costs. The
international youth are prepared to pay the cost of souvenirs, entrance fees
to sightseeing venues and incidental expenses such as snacks.
Australian clubs and
families hosting international youth will incur expenses:

daily
lodging and meals (expected to be covered by the host family) |

|
entrance to
sightseeing venues |
|
|
travel to
and from airports to greet and farewell each exchange |
|
|
incidentals
including small gifts of Australian souvenirs, Lions badges and
bannerettes, etc |
Most Host
Clubs set aside a budget to assist the expenses incurred by a host family.
The amount of the subsidy can be agreed between Club members and the host
family.
