Are you interested in entering Youth of the Year?

If you are a young person and will be between the ages of 16 and 19 year at June 30 2010, then you are eligible to enter the Youth of the Year Quest.

The Quest is a prestigious event for young people, having been in existence for more than 46 years and boasts many high profile Australians amongst the ranks of former entrants, including our Prime Minister Mr Rudd.

The Quest will give you an unequalled opportunity to experience an interview situation - in a friendly atmosphere - and a change to practice your public speaking skills.

The best way to enter the Quest is to talk to your local Lions Club. If you don't know how to do this, email the Australian Chairman at md201yoty@iprimus.com.au and he will contact a local club.

If your school would like to be enter a number of students, this is also possible.

All you have to do is fill in the Entry Form and submit it to the Lions Club and they will take it from there. There are a number of levels within the Quest, with the winner advancing right through until the national final in May 2010. The prizes are attractive - the State winners receive a round Australia trip to visit the home town or city of all the other State winners. This will take place in January 2011 for about 35 days. There is also a $500 cash prize for these winners.

The overall national winner receives a trip to the UK to a Lions Youth Exchange camp and $1000 spending money. The Public Speaking winner will go to a Lions Youth Exchange camp in Rotorua New Zealand and $500 spending money.

The Quest is a great opportunity for our young people to gain valuable experience at a time when they are about to enter adulthood and either the workforce or further education.

A message for Lions members

For those clubs yet to run their club final, you still have time, but you will have to act quickly. As soon as school resumes, you will have to get the entry forms to the entrants. Your District Chairman for Youth of the Year has all the stationary you need, so if you are yet to receive it, please make contact ASAP.

Please note that this year we have put the year dates (2009/10) on the key forms to ensure that every entrant is using the up to date forms. Please make sure your entrants are using this form.

There are some changes to the Guide to Judges form and we have introduced a new form to help the judges with their deliberations at the public speaking section.

Please make the effort to keep yourself up to date - and get started now!!

" Youth are our future - they are also the present"

As one of Australia's most respected community service organisations, the National has been proud to support the Lions Youth of the Year Quest.

The Quest is a community project designed to encourage, foster and develop leadership qualities in young Australians. More than 2,000 people compete in the Quest each year, with winners making their way through zone, region, district, state and national finals.
